Perla Valtierra

The Mek pillow collection is handmade in Amsterdam by Najib Khalil and Brosk Hussein. With over 35 years experience, Najib’s knowledge of fabrics and sewing techniques is endless. Working for a wide range of high-end clients, he had to leave his private couture atelier in Beirut behind in 2015 to flee the war. He now lives and works in Amsterdam. Brosk was born in Aleppo, Syria and moved to Beirut to pursue his career as a tailor. There, he deepened his craftsmanship by working with leading designers, creating stunning evening gowns and wedding dresses. In 2015 Brosk fled for the war in his country and has now settled in The Netherlands.

70% Hemp 30% Cotton. Hemp is one of the most sustainable fabrics there is. It has no natural enemies (insects) and therefore requires no pesticide treatment. It grows extremely fast, so weeds have little chance. 100% Biodegradable, no irrigation needed, no chemical treatment.

Kat Klerks is a Dutch artist.
Spending many years in search of what her exact art form would be, Abstractionism finally found Kat Klerks about six years ago. Her take on abstract art is complemented by the inspiration Kat finds in the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi. Constantly seeking for balance in imperfection in both colours and forms, Kat realizes it is the imperfection that actually creates sense in her paintings.

MEK Gallery was born with the idea of reviving items with a previous life. No matter the setting, there is always room for a beautiful aesthetic object. Sourced with love and care, MEK Gallery brought various artists together for this collaboration, but also searched for unique items itself.

Perla Valtierra is an eternal explorer of objects, crafts and cultures — freely experimenting with clays and glazes like an alchemist. After practicing traditional pottery among various native communities of her home country Mexico, she relocated to Paris, Kyoto and Brussels to explore foreign techniques. She currently resides in Mexico City, where she creates handcrafted made-to-order pottery with a small team of crafts(wo)men.

These objects are handmade in Perla’s studio in New Mexico, using local clays and in-house glazes. Each piece is fired at 1200ºC, creating resistant, long-lasting objects that are each unique in size, colour and details.
